What To Look For In A Digital Photo Frame

What is the screen size? Of course, to enjoy the best presentation of your photos, you want a decent screen size. 6.5", 8" and 10.4" have the best fit for standard photos due to the 4:3 aspect ratio.
What is the image quality like? You want the TFT display to be sharp and bright.
How about the image display resolution? Nowadays large megapixel digital cameras take photos in huge resolutions, so you don't want your picture frame to only show small resolutions.
Does the frame have internal memory to store photos? If so, what is the capacity?
How are pictures transferred to the device? Some frames connect to PC by USB and others conveniently allow you to take the flash memory card (e.g. SD card, CF, SD, or MMC) out of your digital camera and insert it straight into the digital photo frame.
If the picture frame can read flash memory cards, which types can it read? It's important to make sure it matches the flash memory card / memory stick format you are using with your digital camera. Multi slot flash card readers are obviously the best choice if you use a range of flash media.
Video? What? A photo frame that shows your videos? You better believe it. Look for "MPG" or "MP4" or "MPEG4" in the specifications, and it's better if it has built-in speakers so you can hear the audio.

Screen aspect ratio for digital photo frames

Aspect ratio is the ratio between the lengh and width of the LCD screen.
Aspect ratio 4:3 is the standard photo as taken by most digital still cameras and non digital cameras
Aspect rato 16:9 is wide screen which is taken by wide screen cameras.

16:9 digital frames: 7", 9.2" and some other less common sizes

Why are 6.5" frames better and larger than 7" frames for photo viewing.

Most digital cameras take standard photos with a 4:3 ratio.
The 6.5", 8" and 10.4" screens have a 4:3 ratio, making them a perfect fit.

7" frames are wide screen with 16:9 ratio. Therefore photos will be displayed stretched or in 4:3 mode.
The 4:3 mode in a 7" screen gives only a picture size of 5.6" and black screen strips showing at the side.
7" screen is best for pictures and videos taken by a wide screen cameras.
